Readers, Digest: ‘The Hunger Games’ Goat Cheese Apple Tarts

894a209a-d464-403d-9c15-7190b9df0af1.jpg

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1” will come out Nov. 21. While you wait, try making some Goat Cheese Apple Tarts like those from Peeta’s family bakery.

Adding the brown sugar and cinnamon cream cheese to the goat cheese gives the filling a sweet taste. This makes the tart taste more like dessert.

Total Time: 15 minutes

Yield: 6 tarts, serves 3

Ingredients

  • Flaky biscuit dough
  • 2 tablespoons crumbled goat cheese
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar and cinnamon cream cheese
  • 18 thin apple slices
  • olive oil
  • brown sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Lightly spray baking sheet with olive oil.
  3. Open can of flaky biscuit dough, split each pre-cut biscuit in half and place on baking sheet.
  4. Using a spatula, mix the goat cheese and cream cheese in a medium-sized bowl until smooth.
  5. Using a sharp knife and a cutting board, cut an apple in half, avoiding the core.
  6. Turn the apple skin face up and make 18 thin slices.
  7. Spread the cheese mixture onto each biscuit.
  8. Add three slices of apple per biscuit.
  9. Sprinkle brown sugar on top of the apple slices.
  10. Place the tarts into the oven for 8 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
  11. Enjoy the tarts and may the odds be ever in your favor.
