The Chico State women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday, in the form of a 2-0 shutout to Cal State Stanislaus.
The Warriors first went ahead 15 minutes into the game when Karenee Demery knocked a header in for a score on a combined assist from Marissa McDuffy and Katelyn Nebesnick.
Demery also had an assist on Tina Benson’s goal in the second period.
Goalie Sydney Coleman-McNally recorded five saves for the Wildcats, but the offense, despite strong opportunities, fell short against a strong Cal State Stanislaus squad.
“It wasn’t a bad game,” said senior Gail Bassett. “We really just had to focus on our game. They have the same style of play as us, so things got congested in the middle.”
Cal State Stanislaus goalie Chelsea Lewandowski didn’t need to get a save to hand Chico State its first shutout of the year.
Chico States falls to 3-1-0 on the year and 1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, while Cal State Stanislaus improved to 4-0 and 2-0 in the CCAA.
