The Chico State women’s volleyball won its first home game of the season Wednesday, beating Cal State Stanislaus three sets to one in front of a rowdy crowd.
The Wildcats had great play from junior outside hitter Ellie Larronde, who recorded 17 kills and 14 digs. Freshman setter Torey Thompson had a game high 45 assists, along with four kills.
There was a good battle in the first set, but the ‘Cats fell short, losing 25-18. The Wildcats started strong in the second set with an eight point rally, putting them up 10-2. They followed through to win the set 25-20 and tied the match at one set a piece.
In the third set, both teams traded points, and as the crowd turned up the volume, the ‘Cats finished the set in wild fashion, winning 25-23. In the final set, Chico State came out energized and never looked back, winning the set and match.
“After the first set, we regrouped and played great,” Larronde said.
The ‘Cats are now 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The next game will be away against Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday at 7 p.m.
