The Chico State women’s volleyball team went five sets deep Friday, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay three sets to two (25-19, 25-20, 16-25, 20-25, 15-11).
A trio of Wildcats led the charge, with 18 kills a piece from junior Ellie Larronde, sophomore Hannah Wilkins and junior Lindsay Quigley.
In the first set, both teams played well, but the ‘Cats were able to close out the set 25-19 and take an early lead. The Wildcats continued to play strong and won the second set 25-20.
The ‘Cats lost focus and slipped up in the next two sets, allowing the Otters to even the match at two sets a piece. In the fifth and final set, the ‘Cats fired back and looked like they did not want to go home without a win, finishing the Otters three sets to two.
“The fifth set was very intense,” said we gained some momentum in the end of the fourth and used it,” Quigley said.
The Wildcats are now 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. The next game is Saturday at Cal State East Bay.
