The Chico State Women’s basketball team lost 61-53 in a tough game against the San Francisco State on Saturday night.
The Wildcats scored first with a three-pointer and had the first lead of the game, but the Gators went on a 28-6 run.
San Francisco State took the lead and held it for the rest of the contest.
The first half ended with a 31-22 lead for the Gators. The Wildcats cut the 28-6 run lead by scoring 13 points before the half.
Senior guard Annie Ward and sophomore guard Tyler Prange contributed to the run with three-pointers that fell.
The ‘Cats pushed to cut the deficit during the second half to six points 39-33, but they could not get over the hump. The Gators scored 8 points expanding their lead to 47-33.
Chico State attempted to cut the lead with two three-pointers by first-year guard Whitney Branham and forward Ashtyn Anderson.
At the end of the second half, the Wildcats struggled to find any offense with zero points in the final three minutes of the game.
The ‘Cats shot 30 percent from the field and were 20-67 on shots as a team.
Senior forward Michelle Walker had her first double-double during her career at Chico State with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Wildcats will have their final games of the season at home in Acker Gym next weekend against Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay on Friday and Saturday.
