The Chico State women’s soccer team took its show on the road this weekend, but fell short to Cal State LA on Friday. It marked the first time these two teams have locked horns since Nov. 11, 2011, when Chico State won the West Regionals.
First half action saw both teams trading field goal attempts, but neither squad was able to capitalize. A header shot by Chico State’s Gail Bassett with 29:20 elapsed in the half came close but narrowly missed its mark. Both teams went scoreless in the first half.
In the second half, Cal State L.A. forward Amelia Arvidsson exploited a weak point in Chico’s defense, notching the only goal of the game with 26:45 elapsed in the second half. Chico State failed to reciprocate offensively during the remainder of regulation and allowed Cal State L.A. to redeem its painful West Regionals loss from two years prior.
The women’s team will try and right the ship when they face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
