Danielle Leiva scored a header in overtime Sunday to break the Chico State women’s soccer team’s four-game winless streak with a 2-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Wildcats played a scoreless first period, despite a pair of shots on goal from Leiva and one from Courtlynn Cerrito.
Cal State Dominguez Hills broke the scoreless tie when Naomi Linares scored on an assist from Rachel le Chavez in the 68th minute.
The Wildcats fired back with a goal from Hannah Halstenson in the 76th minute, which was her second of the season.
In overtime, Leiva sent a header in the 99th minute in for the goal on an assist from Emily Shleppey and Gail Bassett.
“We were pretty much on their end for most of overtime, so it was bound to happen,” Leiva said. “It was a definitely a big win for us and it’s going to head us in the right direction.”
Chico State improves to 4-3-1 and 2-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with the win, and Cal State Dominguez Hills falls to 3-4-1 and 2-3-1 in the CCAA.
