With five seniors departing from a playoff bound Chico State softball team this season, the ‘Cats split Saturday’s doubleheader against Humboldt State 1-1 during Senior Day.
Chico State lost the first game of the day 6-2, but rallied to win the second game in a rare intentional walk wild pitch. Junior utility player Ashley Huff scored the winning run in the 10th inning, 2-1.
Ashley Huff set the Wildcats up for victory in the bottom of the 10th inning with a triple bringing her to third base. With two outs and runners on first and third base, the Lumberjacks attempted to walk junior first basemen Desiree’ Gonzalez.
The first pitch of the intentional walk was wild and Huff was able to run home and beat the tag of Humboldt State pitcher Madison Williams to win the game for the ‘Cats.
The Wildcats struggled to drive runs home in the first game of the day with nine hits and only two runs. However, The ‘Cats were able to capitalize in the second game on the six hits they produced in ten innings.
The departing seniors Katy Weger, Courtney Brown, Kelli Keefe, Marlee Retrig and Emily McEnaney will be having their final regular season road trip against California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson this weekend before heading into the CCAA playoffs.
