After two tough losses last week, the Chico State women’s volleyball team swept San Francisco State Friday in three games (25-16, 25-15, 25-18).
In the first game, the Wildcats started off slow and were down 8-2 but rallied back to win the game 25-16. To start the second, the ‘Cats reversed their slow start with a flurry of kills and won 25-15. Continuing their offensive onslaught the Wildcats capped off the game 25-18 and won the match in three games.
Leaders for the ‘Cats were junior Ellie Larronde, who recorded 14 kills, and senior Alex Shurtz,. who added 11 more. Freshman Torey Thompson also had a game high 35 assists.
“We started off slow but started playing tough defense and kept the ball alive,” said junior defensive specialist Emily Duran. “And our offense and serving followed.”
The Wildcats are now 7-6 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The next game will be Saturday in Rohnert Park against rival Sonoma State.
