A campus shooting occurred at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, resulting in 13 deaths and 20 people injured. The shooting took place around 8 a.m.
The gunman has been identified as Chris Harper Mercer, 26. Mercer was an Oregon local and had family in the the area of the college.
“Somehow this has become routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine, the conversation in the aftermath of it. We’ve become numb to this,” said President Barack Obama in a news conference from the White House.
Mercer was not a student of the community college and it is still unknown whether he had any particular targets.
Police discovered three handguns and one rifle from the scene of the shooting. The injured victims were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg to be treated.
There will be a candlelight vigil in Oregon tonight at 8 p.m. at the Roseburg’s Stewart Park.
