The Chico
State women’s volleyball
team ended the weekend with a sweep over the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros Saturday with
a score of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18.
The opening game was back and forth, with neither team able to run away with it. The score was tied 6-6 when the ’Cats found their rhythm and began to gain control, forcing the Toros to call a timeout as they were trailing 12-6. That did not slow down the women as they kept scoring and took the first game 25-11.
The ’Cats kept this pattern the same during the next game and eventually pulled away from the Toros. But the third game did take more effort as Cal State Dominguez Hills would not go down without a fight. A short rally made the score 19-16, but Chico State was able to complete the sweep with a score of 25-18.
Torey Thompson led the ’Cats with 35 assists, while Ellie Larronde led the team with 10 kills. Also filling up the stat sheet was Alex Shurtz with nine kills and Natalie Nordahl with eight kills.
“We worked well together as a team and we were determined to get the win after losing last night,” Nordahl said.
The ’Cats move to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in California Collegiate Athletic Association conference play.
Chico State hopes to keep the winning streak alive when they go on the road and face Cal Poly Pomona Oct. 17.
