Chico State ends their away losing streak
The Chico State women’s basketball team won 65-59 in a game against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars on Jan. 21 in San Marcos.
The win is their third in conference and gives them a conference record of 3-8, and overall record of 7-9.
First Quarter- Chico State quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Despite the hot start, Cal State San Marcos caught up and the quarter ended with the Wildcats leading 15-13.
Both teams were even in turnovers and rebounds.
Second Quarter- The teams would trade baskets throughout the quarter. Neither team was able to gain a strong lead, with the final score in the quarter at 32-26.
Chico State’s perfect performance from the free throw line and 40 percent three-point shooting helped give them the edge.
Third Quarter- The Wildcats started off the third quarter with a layup by first year forward McKena Barker and succeeded in scoring the first five points of the quarter. The Wildcats continued their dominant performance and ended up with the largest lead of the game with a score of 46-34.
Fourth Quarter- In the final quarter the Cougars began to cut into the deficit by utilizing the three-point shot sinking four in total during the fourth quarter. However, Chico State continued to hold the lead resulting in a final score of 65-59.

The Chico State women’s basketball team will be back home to face Simpson University on Saturday, Jan. 23, in Chico.
