The Chico State women’s volleyball team lost to Cal Poly Pomona Thursday in four games (21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 17-25).
In the first game, the Wildcats came out slow and the Broncos took the game 25-21. During the second, the ‘Cats were down 17-16 until the Broncos went on a
8-2 run to go up two sets 25-18.
In the third game, the Wildcats got revenge as both teams were tied 20-20 before Chico State rallied and won the next five points to win 25-20. Unfortunately, the fourth game was quick and the Broncos closed out the match 25-17.
Leading the way for the ‘Cats were senior outside hitter Alex Shurtz with 19 kills and junior middle hitter Lindsay Quigley with 14 kills. Freshman setter Torey Thompson had a game high 42 assists.
“We came out slow and had a hard time getting anything started,” said junior defensive specialist Emily Duran. “We battled back in games three and four but we just couldn’t get it done.”
The Wildcats are now 8-9 on the season and 5-5 in conference play. The next game is Saturday away against Humboldt State at 7 p.m.
