The Chico State women’s volleyball team bounced back and defeated Humboldt State Saturday in four games (25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 25-14).
In the first game, the Wildcats set the tone early and took the game 25-18. The Lumberjacks took the second game in extra play, fending off the ‘Cats 26-24. The match was tied at 20 apiece in the third ’till the Wildcats rallied off five straight points to take the game 25-20. In a dominating fourth game, the ‘Cats came out aggressive and closed out the Lumberjacks 25-14 to win the match 3-1.
Leading the cat attack was senior outside hitter Alex Shurtz, who recorded 24 kills. Junior middle hitter Lindsay Quigley added on another 14 kills and freshman setter Torey Thompson had a game high 51 assists.
“Our defense played very well tonight and it showed how good we can be,” Quigley said.
The Wildcats are now 9-9 on the season and 6-5 in conference play. The ‘Cats next game is Oct. 25 at Acker Gym against Cal State East Bay.
