The Chico State women’s volleyball team lost to Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday in a heart breaking five games (25-19, 25-192, 20-25, 28-30, 13-15).
In the first game, the Wildcats overpowered the Otters 25-19. The ‘Cats continued their strong play in the second and took the game 25-19.
In the third game, the Wildcats came out flat as the Otters won 25-20, making the match 2-1. In an intense fourth game that went to extra play the ‘Cats fell short 30-28 as the Otters evened up the match at two apiece. The Otters closed out the Wildcats in the fifth set 15-13.
Leading the the way for ‘Cats was senior outside hitter Alex Shurtz who recorded 23 kills. Junior outside hitter Ellie Larronde added another 18 kills. Freshman setter Torey Thompson had a game high 61 assists.
The Wildcats are now 10-10 on the season and 7-6 in conference play. The, ‘Cats next game is Nov. 1 against UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
