The Chico State women’s soccer team lost their weekend road trip opener to Cal State San BernardinoFriday, 1-0.
The loss marks a successful regular-season sweep for the Coyotes, who previously defeated Chico State at University Soccer Stadium on October 4th.
First half action saw both teams struggle to score. Chico State goalie Brianna Furner defended beautifully, collecting three saves to help keep Cal State San Bernardino scoreless.
In the second half, the Coyotes managed to exploit weaknesses in Chico State’s defensive scheme, as midfielder Kellie Valverde sneaked a goal in from 40 yards out. The goal came at the 27:35 mark of the second half.
With time running out, Chico State failed to reciprocate on the offensive end.
The loss snaps the ’Cats 3-game winning streak. Prior to Friday, Chico State managed to turn the month of October around after a grueling 0-1-4 start.
The Wildcats will try and get back on track when they take on Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. The game starts at 2 p.m.
