The Wildcats swept the No. 14 Sonoma State Seawolves for the first time since 2008, winning with three exciting games to claim a Chico State victory.
The games results were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-23 at Acker Gym. After two straight wins the Wildcat’s claimed the position of sixth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Ellie Larronde, Lindsay Quigley, Natalie Nordahl and Kristyn Casalino each made kills and helped contribute to the success of Chico State. Torey Thompson put up 37 assists, the highest of the match, and made 12 digs. Emily Duran made recorded 16 digs Friday night.
In the first match, Chico State took a strong lead and the Seawolves were never able to come back, ending with a 25-15 win.
The second match was a back-to-back battle between the teams, ending in yet another Wildcat win of 25-19.
The third match was a nail biter that the Seawolves started off leading, but the Wildcat’s turned around with the help of the home crowd. The ‘Cats scored several great kills and won 25-23 for a clean sweep of Sonoma State.
The Wildcat’s will play again Saturday night against San Francisco State at Acker Gym at 7 p.m.
