Turnovers and frigid three-point shooting gave the Chico State men’s basketball team a 56-60 loss in its Dec. 1 conference opener against UC San Diego.
The loss snaps the Wildcats previous five-game win streak and leaves them with an overall record of 6-2.
The Wildcats made just three of 13 shot attempts from behind the arc in the game and committed eight more turnovers than the Tritons. Chico State had a rebounding advantage of two and made 17 points from the charity stripe to keep the game close.
Junior guard Corey Silverstrom led the Wildcats in scoring with 13 points and went nearly perfect from the free throw line by making five of six shot attempts. Along with Silverstrom, sophomore guard Nate Ambrosini broke into double-digit scoring numbers with two three-pointers on three attempts.
Although Chico State had an advantage of two in the rebounding category, it couldn’t overcome the turnovers it committed.
