The Chico State women’s volleyball team defeated Cal State L.A. Saturday in five games.
The Wildcats came back in thrilling fashion down 2-1 to the Golden Eagles to win the match 3-2 (22-25, 27-25, 17-25, 25-17, 15-12).
In the first game, the ‘Cats battled but came up short 25-22. The Wildcats evened up the sets 1-1 in the second bouncing back 27-25 in extra play. In the third game, the ‘Cats came out flat and the Golden Eagles won 25-17.
Feeling the pressure in the fourth game, the Wildcats evened up the sets at two apiece winning 25-17. In the fifth game, the ‘Cats showed their resilience taking the game 15-12 spoiling the Golden Eagles near victory.
Leading the attack was senior outside hitter Alex Shurtz who recorded 23 kills. Junior middle hitter Lindsay Quigley added 17 more kills and freshman setter Torey Thompson had a game high 52 assists.
“It was a battle all night,” said junior defensive specialist Emily Duran. “We kept working and picked up momentum in game five and held on,”
The Wildcats are now 14-13 on the season and 11-9 in conference play. The ‘Cats next game is against Humboldt State at Acker Gym on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
