Chico Art Center seeks national artists

Calling all artists near and far!

The Chico Art Center is hosting an annual art show called the “National All Media Juried Exhibition Call for Art.” Artists are invited to submit their works in person or by photo via entrythingy if they aren’t from around Chico. The first place winner receives a $1,200 prize courtesy of The Art House and Chico and Sadie Card Studio.
“There has been one (of these exhibits) a year for as long as I know, so a minimum of 12,” said Erin Wells, a volunteer for Chico Art Center.

The Chico Art Center usually gets non-interactive art pieces, but there have been some unusual pieces such as a chair decoupage in bubblegum wrappers or fabric media like weaving burlap, and they typically get about 100-150 pieces of work.

This year’s juror is Tony Natsoulas, a professional artist focusing on ceramic sculpture since he received his degree from UC Davis. According to his website, his work has appeared around the world in museums and galleries. He has also commissioned work including sculptures in bronze, fiberglass and ceramic.

“The juror gets a digital copy of the server where they can look at all the pieces,” Wells said. “Some get into the show. Some do not.”

In order to enter, an artist must pay a fee of $35 for two works maximum. Each additional entry is $10. Diptychs and triptychs considered as one piece. The entry must be accompanied with a photo of the entire work, with a detailed focus being advised. All the information and rules are located here.

Art pieces will be for sale and available for pick up when the exhibition ends. Artists are responsible for covering shipping costs if the piece needs to be shipped to and from the art center.
