Chico State student was awarded a scholarship of 20,000 by the Pacific Gas & Eelectric Company.
Rigoberto Vazquez Jr., a Mechanical Engineering major, applied for the Better Together STEM scholarship on February 17 and was awarded on June 8.
“I strive in school because I wanted a better life the influences were to do the opposite of what my family did I saw them as an example of what not to do. My dad and I lived in a car sometimes, crack houses and even abandoned houses. My grandmother provided for me when my dad was unavailable at that time”, said Vazquez through public message.
He is expected to graduate Spring 2019 and is planning to further his education by attending graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering.
