‘Clue, On Stage!’ at Chico Theater Company: Resurrecting the magic of theater

Based upon the 1985 cult-classic film and board game, “Clue, On Stage!” is the next show to come from Chico Theater Company. This comedic murder-mystery follows the story of six different characters at the strangest of dinner parties. They all find out they were blackmailed by the same person and work together to solve a murder under odd circumstances. This timeless story with a twist comes alive with a talented cast and crew.

Over the past several months, CTC found ways to keep theater alive during the darker times. Mark Edson has dedicated his passion, love, and light within the company for 18-years as the executive, managing and artistic director.

“I wear the three hats,” Edson said. The company wanted a play with a small cast of around six to eight actors who are vaccinated. The shows are roughly 75% precast for the purpose of familiarity and comfortability.

Edson gave exclusive insight into the rehearsal process and what’s to come. With the reopening of the theater last May, all rehearsals have been held inside and cast members are required to wear masks.

While COVID-19 has been a setback for the theater company, season ticket holders donated their money to the company with a total of around $75,000.

“We are truly grateful for the endless support and generosity,” said Edson.

“Clue, On Stage!” heavily depends on the interactions of a cast of characters with many differences. The tight-knit cast anticipates many laughs and surprises from the audience.

“I love working with this cast and they have all been such professionals all along,” said cast member Christi Harrington. “Their interactions are truly wonderful.”

Harrington plays the role of Mrs. Peacock, the wife of a senator. Her character dedicates herself to maintain a perfect public image.

She confesses the most special part of the show is performing with her husband Bill Harrington who plays the role of Colonel Mustard, the sharp and imperious military man. This will be their third production together with CTC.

“We are genuinely having so much fun, I think it will bring some great energy to get the audiences laughing,” said cast member Kasandra Partain who plays the role of Ms.Scarlet.

Her character uses humor, sass and spunk throughout the play. She’s excited to bring an interesting and fun concept on stage.

“Clue, On Stage!” will run from Oct. 1-4  at the 166 Eaton Rd. The rest of their season will be located inside the theater. Masks are required for those who are unvaccinated and are recommended even if vaccinated. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
