Pumpkins fall from Butte Hall

The 19th annual Pumpkin Drop will be at noon Tuesday on the south side of Butte Hall. The Society of Physics will be re-enacting Galileo Galilei’s demonstration of the law of falling bodies. He dropped balls off the Tower of Pisa, and the society will be using pumpkins instead. The society promises students “a smashing good time.”

Music major scholarship created

The Joshua Read Memorial Scholarship has been established in memory of the general manager of the Chico Woodstock’s Pizza. The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, people donate money to the University Foundation for the scholarship. The scholarship will be given to a music major, and the main criterion will be financial need.

Fraternity celebrates 25th anniversary

Chico State’s oldest black fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, celebrated its 25th anniversary Saturday, according to a press release. Eighty-seven members joined to discuss the fraternity’s success and future. Kappa Alpha Psi members have served in Associated Students, the National Society of Black Engineers, the Pan African Union, the Men of Honor and many athletic programs.

Orion adviser wins national honor

Dave Waddell, who teaches journalism and is the adviser to The Orion, won the national Distinguished Adviser Award from College Media Advisers Inc. He will formally receive his award Sunday. Waddell played a role in establishing a partnership between the university and MediaNews Group while he was on sabbatical in spring.

Have your speech evaluated

Students can have a free evaluation of their speech and language courtesy of the Center for Communication Disorders. Graduate students use a variety of assessments that pertain to speech disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice and other qualities. To set up an evaluation, call the center at 898-5871.
