The men’s golf team rolled in at third place at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational April 16 and 17 and finished eight strokes over par to come in third before winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association title Tuesday.

Senior Kyle Souza finished off the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational with a score of 213, tying him for second place. He produced three 1-under par 71s in a row, leading him to be the only player with three sub-par rounds in a row on the field.

“Bob Bucey made a double-eagle today, the rarest feat in golf,” Souza said.

Senior Bucey reached a personal record with a score of 219 thanks to the double-eagle he made at hole 16.

Bucey tied at 17th at 3-over par while sophomore Ricky Owaki and senior Kevin Rei tied for 21st at 5-over.

Owaki finished off the tournament with a score of 221. He did not have any three-putts, which was his goal, he said.

“We were in third place after yesterday and our goal for today was to shoot under par, and we did but still ended in third place,” Owaki said.

Senior Eric Frazzetta tied for 26th at 6-over par while sophomore Chris Doyle tied at 73rd playing as an individual.

The team won Chico State’s first ever CCAA title by tying the course record of 18-under par at Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles Monday and Tuesday.

The final tournament win gave the Wildcats their sixth win of the 10-tournament season to tie the school record.

Winning six tournaments is something that just doesn’t happen, head coach T.L. Brown said.

In the tournament win that clinched the CCAA title, it was Frazzetta who shined to give the ’Cats top honors.

Both Frazzetta and Souza were able to shoot an impressive 6-under par for the tournament to tie for first.

With 11 birdies in the second round, Frazzetta gave the ’Cats the spark they needed to finish strong and come away with the win.
