The toxicology report for Chico State student Carly Callaghan released Tuesday revealed that she died of an accidental acute poisoning.

Callaghan, a 22-year-old graphic design major, was lying on the floor in her room when her roommate discovered her on Sunday, Sept. 16.

She wasn’t breathing and wasn’t responding to me,” said Megan Collishaw, her roommate and a senior health education major.

The toxicology report said that she had alcohol, Prozac and a high level of morphine in her system, said Lt. Al Smith of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. The mixture of drugs and alcohol caused the death.

Callaghan was dead when first responders arrived on the scene, Chico Police Sgt. Curtis Prosise said. Chico police officers conducted a search and determined that there was no foul play.

Callaghan was diagnosed with bronchitis at the Student Health Center two days before her death, Collishaw said.

This is the fourth alcohol-related student death reported in Chico since August.
