With family weekend just around the corner, students will be taking their families to local hot spots to indulge at the best restaurants.
Chico caters to every kind of breakfast-eater from the grab-and-go specials at Brooklyn Bridge Bagel Works to Nash’s full brunch experience, and everything in between. Four Chico restaurants stand out above the rest for students because of the service, prices, atmosphere and fantastic food.
Located on Vallombrosa Avenue, just outside of downtown, Morning Thunder is always bustling with customers.
Despite being fairly busy most mornings, they have great service, said Gabrielle Dalton, junior communications sciences and disorders major.
“I always get the omelet,” Dalton said. “They also have great coffee.”
Morning Thunder offers a full breakfast and lunch menu with a variety. From omelets to a classic breakfast combo, customers should find what they are craving for around $10 a plate.
It’s difficult to find a person in Chico who doesn’t appreciate Mom’s. Located on Second and Normal Streets, students can’t get a full breakfast experience any closer to campus than this.
“Mom’s has the best eggs Benedict,” said Sarah Klucznik, sophomore business major. “Plus it feels like breakfast at home. It has such a homey feel to it.”
Mom’s is a great choice for a tight budget— most of its dishes are under $10— and offers a full menu of juices, mimosas and other unique drinks. You can find just about any of your favorites on their full breakfast, brunch or lunch menus.
Spencer Irby, junior business major, said going to Mom’s during family weekend can be tricky, though, since there is usually a line around the block during that time.
Travis Roper, Mom’s Restaurant manager, said the establishment doesn’t take reservations during family weekend in order to ensure all customers have a chance to dine. Roper also said that Mom’s will extend its brunch hours all day for that weekend.
Jack’s on Fifth and Main Streets has an authentic, 1950s diner feel and has a full, all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner menu to accommodate all tastes and preferences.
“Half my family is coming for parents weekend and we are going to Jack’s,” said Emily Reising, first-year student. “When my mom and aunt came with me to help move in, that’s where we went afterward. They said it’d become a family tradition.”
Any students planning on going home to see their parents can grab a piece of Jack’s famous pie before catching the airport shuttle from the diner’s lot.
The Breakfast Buzz, located on Cedar Street, is a favorite for students who want a unique and social breakfast experience. Instead of isolated booths and tables, The Breakfast Buzz is great for big groups and students who want to interact with others during their meal.
“It’s not a quiet restaurant,” said Giancarlo Barile, junior business administration major. “It’s all college students, for the most part, who are meeting in a casual setting for breakfast.”
The Breakfast Buzz offers outdoor seating and a full breakfast and lunch menu until 2 p.m.
This breakfast hot spot has daily lunch specials and through the weekends, it offers an all-day brunch along with bottomless Champagne and mimosas.
