Isaiah Ellis scores CCAA Player of the Week
Chico State forward Isaiah Ellis added yet another accomplishment to his Wildcat career after winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week Award for Jan. 22-28.
The Antelope High School alumnus has been an essential player for the Wildcats men’s basketball team on both sides of the ball.
In 19 games for the ’Cats this season, Ellis has averaged 28.4 minutes per game while averaging 12.5 points scored per game.
He places third on the team with an average of 12.5 points per game, first with 36 steals and second with 19 blocks, only behind Justin Briggs’ 28.
Head Coach Gregory Clink believes that Ellis is starting to hit his peak coming off of his two best games this past weekend against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.
Ellis scored a total of 24 points, nine rebounds and two assists against Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday, helping lead the Wildcats to a victory of 82-64.
Ellis took his game to another level when playing Cal State L.A. Saturday, upping his season-best score from 24 to 26 points. On top of his 25 points, Ellis added seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot, leading to an 85-58 win for Chico State.
“Ellis has shown that he is an outstanding defender who has begun to assert himself offensively,” Clink said. “He’s had a really good senior season so far.”
The rest of the season looks promising for the Wildcats, especially with Ellis driving into Thursday’s home game at 7:30 p.m. against Cal State Monterey Bay with full force.
