On Tuesday night the Chico State volleyball team faced the tough competitors of San Francisco State University for the second time this season. Chico State put up a fight but trailed behind San Francisco State for most of the night.

The Gators were not willing to take another loss against Chico, and came out victorious.

Both teams started off not allowing the other team to take the lead. In the first set there was ten tied scores and five lead changes. The adrenaline was running and the teams showed their strongest game play.

The Gators found the Wildcats’ weakness and emerged for the last two points taking the set 28-30.

Chico State was not ready to give up and had a nerve-racking set. Impressively, the second set had 12 tied scores and seven lead changes. As both teams last tied at 18-18, the Gators gained momentum and took the lead.

The Gators reached game point leaving the Wildcats at 20 points. This pumped Chico State up and did not allow the game point to go through. They came back to score another three points on San Francisco State, but the Gators had enough and shut them down scoring the game point.

In the third set, the Wildcats had a very rough start allowing the Gators to dominate at 0-12. Sophomore #12 Makaela Keeve put the Wildcats on the board with a much needed kill. Slowly Chico trickled back and created the smallest gap of the set at 12-15.

San Francisco called timeout and came back on the court with intentions of revenge. Although Chico State kept up on the scoreboard, the Gators showed no sympathy and took the last set 19-25.

The Wildcats get ready to continue on the road and face Humboldt State University on Friday Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
