Since his start in the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, Lebron James was faced with a lot of pressure to put the team on top. Many Lakers fans put their faith in James, but have been disappointed with the team’s 2-3 record set so far.
James has a few remarkable moments in the past season, most notably breaking Michael Jordan’s record of 866 double digit scoring game streak. Setting the new NBA record to 867 double digit scoring game streak and showing basketball fans everywhere how much of a strong force he is.
This record breaking game play made the Lakers jump at the opportunity of recruiting James on the roster when he was declared a free agent.
The Lakers had been searching for an answer for the past five seasons, not making an appearance to the Western Conference playoffs since 2013. With the new refreshed roster, including Rajon Rondo, Lonzo Ball and, of course, James, it was looking up for the Lakers, until the season started taking place.
James continues to show off his skills, averaging 25.8 points so far this season. But, in a recent game against the San Antonio Spurs, fans became skeptical about what he could really accomplish as a Laker.
In the fourth quarter, he saved the Lakers and made a deep three on the buzzer beater, extending the game into overtime. When it came down to the last seconds of overtime, it was a different story.
A foul was called giving James two free throws but made no use came of them, since he missed them both. The Lakers were only up by one, but a late jumper by Patty Mills gave the Spurs the lead with only six seconds left. The team put their trust in James for another clutch three pointer, but was not able to deliver.
Laker fans got impatient and started a twitter trend, comparing James to former Laker, Kobe Bryant. Commenting, if Bryant would have been on the court that night, he would have not missed those game winning free throw shots.
The game against the Phoenix Suns gave James some room to breathe, as the Lakers dominated the lead after the first half.
It seemed that the Lakers managed the win, even though James sat out for the fourth quarter. As the season continues, the pressure just increases for James to lead the Lakers to more victories.
James has addressed the need for patience from the Lakers fans, as turning a team around takes time. He has always struggled when he enters a new franchise, in 2010 the Miami Heat started 9-8 and, after his return, the Cavaliers started at 5-7.
Anxious Lakers fans hope that James can take the Lakers to a championship, as they haven’t made an appearance since 2010. With the way the season is going under James so far, the chance at a championship is slowly fading away.
