Chico Performances presents comedian Lewis Black’s spring 2014 tour, “The Rant is Due,” at 7:30 p.m. March 8 at Laxson Auditorium.
Black’s distinctive comedy style of outrage and vitriol has established him as one of the most well-known comedians working today. As a comedian, he is able to provoke audiences to raucous laughter even when addressing sensitive or disturbing topics.
Black’s early comedic career began in the ’80s with his work as artistic director for the West Bank Cafe Downstairs Theatre Bar, now the Laurie Beechman Theatre.
He has been doing stand-up comedy since the early ’90s and has released several HBO stand-up specials in recent years, as well as many comedy albums. He has also appeared in a number of films and is a semi-regular guest on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
Black’s stand-up routines combine his customary angry shaking and finger pointing with a genuine concern about cultural trends and political activities that he finds confusing if not downright concerning.
He yells so the audience doesn’t have to.
