Some songs have a way of making people feel all the feels, enough so that they end up missing someone they never had and grieving a love that didn’t exist. I’m one of those people.

When I listen to music, especially slow ballads that make my heart tighten and sputter, I grow incredibly sad because the story being sung throughout the song feels like my own, even though it’s clearly not.

Here are five songs that gut me each and every time I listen to them. I encourage a box of chocolates, soft tissues and some wine to get you through the after-feels.

On top of some other emotions or feelings, I’m sure that women and men alike are sure to miss someone they never had and grieve a love they never lost, too.

Keep in mind I’ve listed them in order of which ones have me feeling the most.

1. “First Heartbreak” by Tori Kelly – Every time I hear this song I feel like I’m in love. I’m not, but I definitely feel like there’s someone waiting for me somewhere.

2. “Lovely” by Sara Haze – Everyone should hear that they’re good enough. That’s what this song does. It breaks my heart and pieces it together at the same time, and I love it. I absolutely do.

3. “Miserable at Best” by Mayday Parade – This song is haunting. That’s all I can say. There’s a lot of different ways that you can interpret it but if you feel like tearing up, give it a listen.

4. “Good in Goodbye” by Carrie Underwood – If you’ve never lost a love or if you have, this song will hit close to home either way (or at least feel like it does). Goodbyes sucks and this song is all about finding the good in it.

5. “Fix A Heart” by Demi Lovato – Selflessly letting go of someone even when it means hurting yourself. I like to think we’ve all been there. This song perfectly describes it.
