Students raise awareness of human trafficking issue
The Stop Trafficking of Persons club at Chico State will be hosting a human trafficking awareness event Monday. A Voice for The Voiceless will be held in the BMU Auditorium from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and the event continues until Tuesday. It is free and open to the public.
On Monday, a human trafficking survivor, Stacey Jewell Lewis, will perform her play, “7 Layers Captive.” On April 12, the organization will offer a training to help people recognize and respond to human trafficking activities and help support local law enforcement in these efforts.
Kate Transchel, professor of history, is an adviser for the club.
“Both events are put on and conducted by survivor activists and that’s really exciting to have the community and human trafficking survivors interfacing,” Transchel said.
STOP meets every Monday at 7 p.m. in Butte Hall in room 309.

Hey, you should provide dates for your articles! You wouldn’t know it, but anti-trafficking agencies actually gather this sort of information in their reports. Thanks for the help!
