Shots fired in downtown Chico leaves one injured and one detained
Around 1 a.m. this morning, Chico Police responded to a report of a subject in the downtown area brandishing a firearm.
Upon arriving downtown, police heard multiple gun shots and people running from the 300 block of Main Street.
When police arrived on scene they located a person lying on the ground in front of Main Street Pizza. Witnesses reported that the alleged shooter then ran east down 4th Street, and away from downtown. Within minutes police located and detained a male suspect less than one block from the scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. “As best we can tell the injuries are non-life threatening,” Chico Police Sergeant Ben Love said.
Police believe the incident took place either on the sidewalk or in the roadway, and it is unclear how many individuals were involved in the shooting.
Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, according to Sgt. Love, so limited information is available concerning the case.
More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
