It was a win or go home situation for the Chico State baseball team, and Alex Mistuloff came through. Big time.
The junior pitcher threw a season-high 5.2 innings and gave up just two runs as the Wildcats beat Cal Poly Pomona 5-2 to stay alive in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship tournament.
Robert Hook relieved Mistuloff in the sixth and threw two scoreless innings. Closer Luke Barker threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 14th save of the year.
Tyler Madrid gave the offense a huge boost by smashing a two-run homer to right field, his third of the season. Ruben Padilla later added to the lead with a two-run double down the left field line.
Catcher Peter Miller also had a pair of hits in the win.
Chico State (39-12) will play tonight at 7 against UC San Diego. The Wildcats began the tournament with a 5-3 loss to the Tritons on Thursday.
