The Wildcats softball team hit for a combined 19 hits Friday on their way to beating the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors 7-2 and 4-1 at home.

The first game started wild as both pitchers had command issues in the first inning. The Cats’ first batter Sammi Ridgway walked on four straight pitches. Things started to open up for the Cats’ in the inning as the team scored three runs. An error and a wild-pitch by the Warriors helped the cause.

The Cats’ scored again quickly in the bottom of the second on a double by Courtney Brown and on a single by Desiree Gonzalez. The inning ended with the Wildcats on top 5-0.

In the top of the fourth, the Warriors cut into the ‘Cats lead on an infield grounder and again on a hit-by-pitch in the fifth cutting the ‘Cats lead down to 5-2.

Courtney Brown in the bottom of the 6th came up and hit a wallop that landed out of the park making the score 7-2.

“It felt good I had two strikes on me and I was battling,” Brown said. “I like it low and down the middle.”

Alex Molina pitched the whole seven innings on five hits, two runs, six walks and four strikeouts.

The second game started slower then the first. In the bottom of the third, the ‘Cats struck first once again on a double by Brown giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Scoring quickly once again, Chico State got a double by Amanda Cordeiro and an infield hit by Ridgway in the fourth making the score 4-0

The Warriors only run of the game came on a sacrifice bunt.

Cheyenne Sandoval pitched the entire game for the Cats’ on six hits, one run and two strikeouts.

“We practice here everyday and it feels good to show what we can do,” Sandoval said.

The Wildcats play the Warriors Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
