Knights with silly accents, showgirls with low-cut blouses and Monty Python’s knee-slapping humor await the Chico community beginning next week, in Chico State’s production of “Monty Python’s Spamalot.”
The production will premiere at 7:30 p.m. April 30, run through May, with a show at 2 p.m. May 4 in Laxson Auditorium.
Loosely based on the 1975 movie, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “Spamalot” first hit Broadway in March 2005 and has been nominated for 13 Tony Awards. The musical won several, including Best Musical.
The soundtrack also won a Grammy for “Best Musical Show Album.”
Now in the hands of Chico State’s best performers and directed by the hysterically charming Joel P. Rogers of the music and theatre department, “Spamalot,” will certainly be this spring’s holy grail, filled to the brim with laughter.
The show promises complex humor that gets a little raunchy, said Dom Finetti, publicity assistant for Joe DiMaggio.
“Monty Python’s Spamalot” is not recommended for children under age 12, due to some sexual humor, coarse language and mild violence. Rather, the show is intended for early teens to 99-year-olds.
