Hilarious memes and hashtags are constantly changing trends in the social media world.

While I usually enjoy most of these amusing trends, I’d be lying if I said that I was a fan of the latest Man Crush Monday and Woman Crush Wednesday hashtags.

The way it works is that every Monday women will post a picture of their crush or significant other with #MCM. The same applies to men but they post on Wednesdays with #WCW, because nothing shows true love like constantly posting pictures of the same person every week.

Even though I’m guilty for using this hashtag after posting a picture of my boyfriend, I’m beginning to understand how irritating this is as people fill my timeline with either the same person or a different person every Monday and Wednesday.

The fact that people anxiously look forward to seeing if their crush is going to post a picture of them shows how our culture is slowly becoming more superficial and attention-driven.

I really hope that we can take a step back from this, and realize that the value of a person should be more than just a social media trend.
