John Feeney has been selected as the new Chief of Police for the University Police Department, according to a system-wide email from Lori Hoffman, the vice president of business and finance.
Feeney will replace the former University Police Chief Robyn Hearne, who announced her retirement last November.
Feeney will officially take his place as chief on July 1.
Bruce Hagerty, a retired Chico police chief, will continue serving as interim chief until then.
Feeney has served as Commanding Officer of a San Francisco Police Department division at the San Francisco International Airport and has been a Captain in the San Francisco Police Department since 2010.
“John brings experience and a proven track record of success with more than 29 years with the San Francisco Police Department,” wrote Hoffman in the email.
Feeney has a bachelor’s degree in Management and a Master’s degree in Leadership from Saint Mary’s college.
“I am confident that John will be an excellent leader in the University Police Department and a strong asset to campus,” she wrote.
