The Chico Police Department’s bait bike program led to an arrest of a transient around Bidwell Park on Sept. 30.
The transient arrested on suspicion of felony grand theft of a bicycle that was valued at $1,500 was identified as Garret Brashears, 30, of Chico.
The arrest was made in the One-Mile Recreation Area of Bidwell Park after police began tracking the bike, which was equipped with a GPS, at 10:15 p.m. The bicycle was in front of the Safeway on Mangrove Avenue.
According to police, Brashears was found with the bike and arrested.
Police have arrested Brashears twice in the last 15 days. He was cited for prowling on Sept. 15 then detained for suspected bike theft. However, the bike in his possession was not registered and the owner could not be identified.
