Wildcats’ 14-game win streak snapped in Hayward

The Chico State softball team lost the first half of a doubleheader against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers 1-2 in Hayward on April 17.

The loss snaps the Wildcats’ 14-game win streak and their first since March 25.

This drops their conference record to 23-10 with an overall record of 32-11.

The Wildcats started out strong and were able to hold the Pioneers at a tie 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh when Cal State East Bay pulled ahead taking the lead and winning the game.

The game was pitched by senior Brooke Langeloh who pitched a total of six and two-third innings. Langeloh allowed three hits resulting in two runs and had one error over the course of the game.

Despite the loss, Langeloh raked up 11 strikeouts which contributes to her 164 total on the year. Langeloh is currently leading the team in strikeouts, 51 of which have been batters who struck out looking.

Langeloh’s pitching held the score at 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh when Cal State East Bay’s Courtney Leyba doubled to left center and was eventually able to score for the Pioneers resulting in a loss for the ‘Cats at 1-2.

At the end of the game the Wildcats had a total of one run, three hits and two errors. Cal State East Bay scored two runs, three hits and had two errors.

The Wildcats are next set to take the field Friday, April 22, at home against San Francisco State.
