A Nord Avenue crosswalk has been made safer for Chico State students to use.

By completing the $200,000 project, traffic can be stopped both ways using these newly installed stoplights.

“The project seems well received, and it was a long time coming,” said John Feeney, University Police chief.

About 900 pedestrians, mostly students, use the crosswalk just north of Steward Avenue, according to Caltrans. Before the stoplights, crossing the street was hazardous with about 11,000 cars in the same area.

“This is an example that we make decisions and take action, and there’s other little nuances here we have to be aware of and get the message out,” Feeney said.
