To raise awareness about International Go Topless Day, the Chico Breast Liberation held a picnic at One Mile Recreation Area on Sunday to advocate for equal rights for women to be shirtless in public.
“Being topless is legal in Chico, but it’s still illegal in other parts of the world,” said Nikki Dow, event organizer. “We stand in solidarity with those people risking arrest.”
This is the sixth year the Chico Breast Liberation has sponsored this event and the theme of this year’s picnic was “regulating body temperature.”
The event has received criticism from community members in the past, but Dow says that has decreased over the years.
“There are people that believe we don’t have the right, but we do,” she said.
