Firefighters Vincent Gama and Dominick Peloso soak the scorched remains of a bamboo thicket on Nov. 6.
A thicket of bamboo went up in flames in the middle of a residential neighborhood earlier tonight.
The fire, which caused no injuries and resulted in minimal damage excepting a property-line fence, occurred on the 600 block of West First Avenue.
Chico Fire Department contained the blaze at about 5:30 p.m.
“We couldn’t see a whole lot when we got here,” said Capt. Joe Duran of Chico Fire Department, describing the cloud of smoke that enveloped the scene.
The fire overtook a growth of bamboo that peaked at about 20 feet tall.
“It was kind of like a wall of flame,” Duran said.
The cause of the fire is not currently known, he said.
