Evangelist preacher comes to campus and meets humorous backlash
An evangelist preached about “sexual misconduct” among students Thursday afternoon, sparking protests in return.
Students from the Gender and Sexuality Equity Center came out to oppose the evangelist preacher who was saying students were “sinful.”
“We are out here to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ,” Jeff Kangus said, an evangelist who accompanied the group. “We are Christians that take the gospel into the world of the population and we have discussions. We banter into the idea and present a biblical worldview.”
Many held up signs to support a safe place along with signs saying “God thinks you’re pretty cool.”
Alex Hansen, a Chico State senior, started sprinkling pancake mix around the evangelist preacher in protest. When Hansen ran out of pancake mix, he went to buy more and came back to sprinkle it again.
“I was on campus and I just saw everybody standing in a circle around these guys. I think he is being super obnoxious and it’s probably unnecessary and not a really good place to do it,” said Riley Houk, a business major. “He was saying some weird, sexually explicit stuff earlier so that was inappropriate. I know it upset some of my gay family earlier and I think that sucks.”
