Wildcats open season with series split

The Chico State men’s baseball team got the season off to a rough start splitting a double header against Fresno Pacific.

 

They lost the first game 4-3, but were able to take the second game 4-1.

 

Going into the season ranked #12 in the nation, the expectations were high for the ‘Cats, however they were unable to get hits with runners in scoring position. They had 11 hits in the game, but left 10 runners on base.

 

Starting pitcher Nick Baker pitched seven solid innings giving up two runs on five hits.

 

Fresno Pacific came back in the 8th inning, down 3-2, scoring two runs in the inning and were able to hold onto the lead, winning their first game of the season.

 

In the second game of the day, the ‘Cats bats came alive as they scored four runs on seven hits.

 

The key play to the game was a two-run single by Gordon Deacon in the 6th inning.

The Wildcats start a four game series at home against Azusa Pacific on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2:00 p.m.
