The Chico State women’s soccer team kicked off their season opener away from home as they faced 15th-ranked Colorado School of Mines. As the Wildcats expected an uphill battle, they only fell short 2-1 and are ready to hit the ground running for the 2019 season.

With 83 seconds in the first half the Colorado Mines put themselves on the score board showing that they are no force to be reckoned with. With four freshmen and three sophomores in the starting lineup the young team retaliated as three out of next five shots they took had to be saved by Mines goalkeeper Shannon Mooney.

But this didn’t stop Colorado Mines and 24 minutes later they increased their lead 2-0.

It wasn’t over for the Wildcats as in the 53rd minute Mines made a terrible move and scored an own-goal. This gave Chico State true freshmen Camille Lidster some momentum and 10 minutes later almost scored the equalizer. Which was the last shot that the Wildcats were able to contest against Mooney.

Chico State continue their journey on the road as they face Regis University in Denver Sunday at 11 a.m. as both teams will play their second game of the season.
