Riff Raff performed a headlining show at the El Rey Theater in Downtown Chico on Friday.

The concert was held in part as a celebration of the grand opening of the new Blaze N’ J’s store in Downtown Chico, next door to the El Rey Theater.

Fans were able to meet and take a photo with Riff Raff in a meet-and-greet inside the new Blaze N’ J’s store prior to the show.

Doors opened at 8 p.m., beginning with an opening set from rapper Lil Sev.

The show had no shortage of talent, with nine other openers following Lil Sev’s set. Among the openers were: Thomas Miller (aka TMillz) from Oroville, Get It Indy (stylized as #GetItIndy) from the Bay Area, and Blaze Smith (aka Blaze1) from Chico.

The abundance of opening acts combined with the DJ sets that played in between them led to Riff Raff not coming out on stage until 10 minutes before midnight.

While 10 opening acts might oversaturate a show-going experience to fans, it certainly didn’t deter the crowd at the El Rey. Fans chanted “RIFF RAFF, RIFF RAFF” throughout the entire night in anticipation of his set.

The Houston-born rapper, known for his 2014 debut record, “Neon Icon,” and his collaborations with comedian Andy Milonakis, attracted a decent turnout at the El Rey Theater, with almost the entirety of the general admission standing-floor areas being filled with audience members.

Riff Raff’s performance went on into the early hours of Saturday morning, ending near 1 a.m.
