K9 Aron was awarded a second scoop of dog food for dinner after finding discovering methamphetamine paraphernalia in a vehicle in a conducted vehicle stop.

On Nov. 9 at 1:50 a.m., a vehicle stop was conducted in the area of Esplanade and East Lassen Avenue by Chico Police K9 Officer David Martin and Officer Brent Farris, according to a news release.

The driver was identified as 37-year-old Ricardo Castrejon. During the conducted vehicle stop, Officer Martin released his K9 Partner Aron, a 6-year-old Belgium Malionis, a dual-purpose canine that specializes in patrol and narcotics detection.

In the duration of the search outside of the vehicle, Aron picked up “the presence of necrotic odor inside the vehicle,” according to the news release.

Officers discovered 7.54 grams of methamphetamine paraphernalia on Castrejon which resulted in his arrest for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia. He was transported to Butte County Jail after being booked for the offenses.

Chico PD said in the release that K9 Aron would be awarded with extra dog food for dinner for his “hard work and dedication to the community.”
