The Chico State women’s soccer team lost to the California Baptist Lancers on the road Saturday afternoon to the tune of 2-0.

The first half was a very competitive match, with Chico getting four shots on goal. The Lancers ended up with only one shot on goal in a half filled with fouls, four for Cal Baptist and two for Chico State.

The Lancers broke the tie in the 60th minute of play on a goal by Justene Kesterson. Chico State came close to tying it late in the 79th minute, but forward Stephanie Vaquerano had her shot blocked.

The Wildcats had another opportunity to tie it in the 88th minute when they were awarded a corner kick. After the corner came a shot by midfielder Lindsey Dias, but her shot was blocked by Lancers goal keeper Leigh Ann Lindsey.

Chico State’s fate was sealed in the 89th minute with another goal by the Lancers coming from forward Lindsay Vesling.

Next up for the Wildcats (0-1-1) is their first home game of the season against Seattle Pacific University Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
