The Chico State men’s soccer team capped off its 2-game road trip on Sunday with a 3-1 lost against Sonoma State.

Sonoma State took the lead at 22:52 in the first half, after junior midfielder Sean Callahan scored off a pair of assists by sophomore Raspreet Sandhu and junior Dylan Stafford.

The Seawolves followed up with another goal early in the second half, when junior Brenton Frame scored with a header.

After being shutout in the first half, the Wildcats finally got on the board thanks to a header delivered by junior defender Justin Walmsley in the second half. The goal was his third of the season.

Walmsley, along with junior defenders Sean Gallagher and Kenny Rosecrance, were among four players who received yellow cards in the game.

Chico State’s efforts of mounting a comeback from the 2-1 deficit was put to a halt by Frame, who scored his second goal of the game following a foul committed by the ‘Cats.

The Wildcats started their weekend on a high note, beating Humboldt State in overtime to snap a 4-game losing streak. After losing on Sunday, Chico State is now 1-5 in conference play and sitting at the bottom half of the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back next Friday, when they play Cal State East Bay at home.
